ABOUT KYLA

Kyla has always been curious. Ever since they were young, Kyla was always asking questions about the world around them. They wanted to know the stories of everyone they met. Even more, Kyla wanted to share what they learned with an audience to ensure the people were heard. Perhaps that was why Kyla was drawn to the theater and its ability to show different points of view with truth and vulnerability.

At ten years old, Kyla stepped out under the bright lights for the first time. Looking out into an arena of eight-hundred-fifty seats, Kyla felt like they truly knew where they belonged and where they would make their name.

Kyla continues to be a perpetual dreamer filled with ambition who knows that they cannot simply wait for opportunities to fall into their lap. So, they started working.

As a playwright, Kyla has received many accolades for their work. In 2021, they had the honor of being chosen for production in the Boston Theater Marathon where their play Tadpole to Toad was chosen for representation by Fresh Ink Theater Company and was later published by Smith and Kraus in the BTMXXIII Special Zoom Edition Anthology. Also in 2021, Kyla’s plays Missing Peace and Tadpole to Toad were both produced in the “Reflection of Us: Festival of 10 Minute Plays” where the later received the award of “Best Original Production” within the festival. Also in 2021, their plays North Star and Leo and the Stitch were produced in “Take 10: A Festival of 10 minute plays”. In 2020, Kyla’s play Bros Before was chosen for production in the “Young Playwrights Project: New Noises Festival” at the Boston Playwrights’ Theater.

As a director, Kyla has produced a total of 12 plays including a zoom production of Lauren Gunderson’s “Silent Sky” which they directed, edited, filmed, and produced for the Westford Academy Theater Arts 2021 season.

Kyla’s technical resume speaks for itself. They move from costuming, to building, to properties design, all the way to lighting. It is difficult to put Kyla in a box because their ambition always helps them break out of it. Kyla always wants to learn and grow in their art and is constantly looking to surprise people.

When they look back at all their accomplishments Kyla always remembers that ten year old, standing in the spotlight, looking at their future. At 18, Kyla’s dreams are just beginning to become reality. Kyla knows that child would be so proud of how far they have come.
